"Geometry is the art of correct reasoning on incorrect figures." — Henri Poincaré

Welcome to Tiny Volt! This website is an attempt to shorten the gap between coming up with a geometric visualization in one's head and implementing it in reality.

Motivation

Visualization in the digital era has become increasingly rich and interactive. It has also given rise to new forms of digital content like visual essays. However, creating such content still requires significant effort which can distract a person from their original line of thought.

Basic geometry, straightedge and compass constructions for example, is still not easy to do in a digital environment. And the tools that address this gap do not allow building sophisticated geometric constructions on top of it, which limits their usefulness. The property of composability is quite common in scientific thinking, and a good tool should be able to implement it. This was a core design principle behind Geomatic. One can either start from a clean canvas or build upon existing constructions.

Another motivation was to simply provide extremely useful tools like broadcasting and autodiff in a geometric setting. I don't think their value has been well appreciated in a geometric context.

What's Next?

At the time of writing this article, we provide Geomatic studio, which is still in beta. There is also an option to define your own geometric constructions and load them as extensions. Check out the extensions page for more details.

Over the coming weeks, expect more content based on this tool.

Happy constructing! 🎉
